Depeche Mode's "Never Let Me Down Again" from "Music for the Masses." Sequenced for the Roland MT-32 and Compatibles by Mike Doyle with Drum Tracks by Gene "Doc Doc" Petro. History of this sequence: I did a rough version of this in April '91 with no drums, didn't like it, and pretty much gave up on it. Then Gene "Doc Doc" Petro, a composer of ROL files for the Adlib card, asked me if I had any ROLs that needed "doctoring" up, his speciality. I converted this sequence and a few others to ROL files and uploaded them to his BBS. He used the Adlib Visual Composer to add drums to this one, didn't change anything else, and released it as one of his "Doc's R&R series" for the Adlib card. Well, even though Doc has never heard any Depeche Mode (!), the drums, while much different from the original, are pretty decent. So this weekend (18-20 Oct 91) when I finally "got a round tuit" I used Sequencer Plus to merge his ROL file into my old rough draft sequence. To my delight, the percussion matched up perfectly. I deleted the other tracks, and spent at least 4 hours listening to the original and recording, cutting, and pasting. This is the result. The original is full of many, many layered sounds; for those that don't know it, Depeche Mode is pretty much an all-MIDI band (minus a few guitar licks) that tries very hard to pretend they aren't - afraid of stereotyping as a computer-formula band, I guess. Anyway, there is no way I could come close to the complexity of the original on the MT-32. This is the best I could come up with in 3 or 4 (or 5?) hours. It could stand some more layering. Have at it! -.\\ike Doyle Genie M.DOYLE14 PRODIGY CWPS81A
